IT Department

A company like OSIS would run into serious difficulties without their own IT department. Set-up, repair, maintenance, and expansion of the widely varied communication technologies, networks, the entire software and hardware – all of this requires a well-trained team. Our team at OSIS is just that kind of team. And it's a lot of fun to work on this team.

The effectiveness of a department is usually demonstrated most clearly in times where multiple major projects – with the same priority level – all have to be dealt with at the same time. We had a phase like this during the past few months. The main objective of these activities was integrating our IT structures with the Olympus Europe IT environment in Hamburg, Germany. This entailed many different and oftentimes overlapping tasks. We had to migrate groupware, launch a new telephone system and the IT conversions required for introducing an ERP system. We had to coordinate things with the many departments involved. But that's what makes our work exciting. Because we are always in touch with our colleagues. And once you've solved one problem, you get to see the radiant and satisfied expressions on their faces. In the past, staff used to enjoy solving IT problems on their own. Today they're glad to have someone take care of it for them so they can focus on their core responsibilities.

I am a trained IT administrator and have been studying geoinformation science at the University of Münster since 2005. I started working as a temporary student help at OSIS since I began my studies. Alongside financing my studies, my job provides me with critical experience regarding the organization and functionality of a globally networked IT infrastructure.
