Being at a company with more than 200 employees on staff in 19 countries, the personnel department has no shortage of work to do. And a glance at our vacant positions shows that there is no end in sight. The tasks in a personnel department are widely varied. This is why we have divided up our tasks among the individual team members.
The things I am mainly concerned with include: generating employment contracts, conducting recruitment interviews, putting together job reference testimonials, being a contact person for maternity leave and parental leave issues, preparing payroll accounting, keeping track of absences, and seminar registration for further training measures.
I think the recruitment interviews are particularly exciting. The range of professions available at OSIS range from software director to stockroom worker. All the different people invited to interviews reflect this whole spectrum. Diversity is what makes working at OSIS so lively and interesting. You don't just have one type of person working here – say, your typical science-type fellows. In addition, I personally enjoy working with people from different countries around the world. You can learn lots and have the opportunity to compare and perhaps revise your own perspective.
I studied commercial law and obtained a Bachelor of Laws degree. There are things I learnt that I implement in practice at OSIS. The future remains fascinating. Because there's one thing I've come to understand working at a OSIS and at our parent corporation Olympus: ongoing change is a constant at a global concern. The following is true day-in/day-out at Olympus: if you're not moving forward, you're sliding backwards.
